I know there's mention of this update in other threads, but opening this thread so people can easily find info about it. Please add your experiences with this update below, good and bad.

My experience started a few weeks ago when I got an email from VW telling me to check privacy permissions in the MyVolkswagen website.

Today I got the yellow notification on the close-down screen after I'd driven into town on an errand. It wasn't there when I parked back at home, but made sure my car was hooked up to my home wifi, left it for about 30 minutes, went back outside and the yellow notification was back, along with a button to update in the settings. it warden me not to disturb it for 210minutes (3.5 hours !?!?) so still resisting the urge for another hour or so. Will let you know the outcome and share screen shots etc. shortly.

Reposting my experiences from the other thread. Thanks for setting this new one up @CoxJul

Here's my recent experience: (ID.4 1st on 3.2 (installed via garage))
  • Received the email saying that I would be getting the v3.7 OTA update on 17 Oct
  • Received the notification in the car (when leaving the car) during the day on 2 Nov, but couldn't go ahead with the update as I needed the car right until late that evening
  • Decided to poke around Settings > System Information to see if there was more information, but there wasn't much but a small message stating that an update would start when the car was switched off
  • When leaving the car for the last time that day, notification stating update was available was no longer there(!) :?
  • Used the car next morning, still no notification
  • Finally when leaving the car for the last time that day, notification came back, so finally agreed to start it (had to turn off lights before I could proceed)
  • Left the car overnight, turned it on this morning - received a popup saying that another update was needed to complete the OTA update. Instead of clicking OK, I clicked on 'More Information' (because why not), but then nothing was displayed and car continued to boot up (and then I received a message about having too many phones connected to the car so had to remove one... :? )
  • Car looked to have finished booting up, no error messages, but poking around I could see in Settings > System Information that the number was different (1017? Can't remember exactly), but when I go to see the ID Software Version app, the icon itself was a frozen spinning circle and going into it, I was treated to a please wait spinning circle. I gave up then and left the car.
I'll check again later today to see if things are any different.

Update: So started the car again, and noted the same spinning circle icons for 'ID Software Version', 'Shop' and 'Games'. Tried to go into each one but was presented with the spinning circle. Waited around a bit and all of a sudden the proper icons showed up. Going into the ID Software Version now said 3.7 (yay), but in the Shop and Games it said something about being out of date and that I should download an update from Notifications. Sat there thinking "What notifications?" when suddenly I received around 3 notifications to do with the Shop, Games and a 3rd one (can't remember now). I clicked into one and it then asked me to download the update aforementioned. Downloaded the update, then tried to go back into the Shop and Games, but was then told they would be available once the car was started up again. Looks like another reboot was needed so left the car.

Haven't been back to the car yet, so will see.

AndyF wrote: Mon Nov 04, 2024 7:43 am Had a notification yesterday morning for 3.7. Once I’d stopped using the car for the day and having read the related info ( available via QR code on the infotainment screen when you click further information) I sat in the car and the notification disappeared. Knowing it comes on after a journey I did a lap of our road and still nothing. Long story short I left it and went out ten minutes later and it reappeared. I held my breath and touched update once I’d turned the lights off (it won’t let you update if they’re on).
It then says leave and lock the car which I did. DON’T BE TEMPTED TO GO BACK AND UNLOCK IT! INSIDE TWO MINUTES IT WILL CANCEL THE UPDATE.
I left it and haven’t been near it since.
The app appears to be as before and syncs with the car this morning, once I’ve got myself sorted I’ll check the car and report back (in about an hour) 🤞🏻
Just got in the car and an array of error lights showed then cleared and message, “Software Update Failed” No explanation was given. 🤬
Will try again later.
Just tried again and after around an hour it’s updating and around a fifth of the way, that’s not to say it won’t fail again. 🤞🏻
Happy to report that the second attempt this afternoon was a success and the car wasn’t bricked. Although there was one point when the fob wouldn’t unlock the car but I guess that was when the car was rebooting.

Got mine last week and checked earlier having seen this thread. It’s already on 3.7. I’d love to help with comments but got no idea what 3.5 was like

Nor me, I was on 3.2 before, 3.5 passed me by and got the 3.7 notification yesterday.
I’ll evaluate more tomorrow but I have other stuff to do tomorrow too.

I did my 3.7 update last night, it was saying it was on 3.2 before. It seems to have worked. I had to turn the side lights off before leaving the car.

The only odd thing I saw this morning was the VW app showed the driver door was open. It wasn't!

After waking the ID up, there were a few more updates available so I spent the next 20 minutes adding these. I guess the message is you may need to allow time after the overnight update before you drive off.

I had to turn off the lights at first attempt. Next attempt was in daylight so lights weren’t on.
I suspect the “door open” warning was due to a delay in the synchronisation between the car and the app.

Well I’ve had 3.7 a couple of days now and as intimated nothing clear and obvious changes* so bug fixes and improvements.
*I think I read somewhere that the ‘signal lost’ notification not resetting when your phone lost signal briefly would be fixed. So far after two journeys along a route I take where I lose signal twice, there’s no notifications any more. Time will tell whether it’s a fix or coincidence. 🤞🏻
One minor annoyance and warned about in the blurb is all the VW tiled apps have returned to the default setting. Not a big deal as I tend to use Apple CarPlay most of the time but I had moved some of them for quick reference of car things but they’re easily remedied.
I had heard (not sure where) that the charging curve had been improved but it won’t affect me at the moment as I now home charge but if true public fast charging should be better. It would be interesting to hear if anyone knows if this is correct or I dreamt it 🤪

If I notice anything else I’ll let you know.

Completed the installation to 3.7 from 3.2 without any issues- just had to stop myself going back to the car too soon and interrupting it. Clue it was updating/complete was the data presented (or not) in the phone app widget.

Got a similar door open warning to exwayf (above) when I returned to the car, it made me worry I hadn't closed the door properly and the update wouldn't have run... but all was OK.

Had to update the Shop app as well as the VW Service and We charge apps. Didn't bother with the games.

Android Auto connectivity has always been unreliable (especially reconnecting after a short stop-off) but it's got a lot worse with 3.7 and I have to press the connect button multiple times, even after the music from my phone has already started playing. Going to check the settings...

One thing I hope they've fixed in the driving dynamics is the unresponsive throttle when you slow down to almost a stop at a roundabout and get bogged down for a couple of seconds sometimes when you hit the throttle.

Probably a coincidence...
Note my and exwayf's comments about the Door open warning after the update?

Wife just said "looks like your car's unlocked". Went to check and the wing mirrors were out, so pressed my lock button; flash of lights, but car still not locked. "Probably an open door" I thought, but no door was obviously open. However, after opening and closing the passenger door the car was finally lockable...

As I said, probably a coincidence, but going to keep an eye on this!
