I have had my ID4 for nearly 3 months now and I am finding the ACC quite unpredictable, it regularly misidentifies speed limits and randomly slows down, often quite dramatically and for no obvious reason.

However, on Sunday whilst driving down the M4 in a 50mph zone, the car apparently detected a 100mph speed limit and started accelerating accordingly.

I took a picture of the dashboard immediately after (my wife was driving) and you can see the '100' road speed sign and that the cruise control speed had been adjusted to match.

Whilst I could understand the odd issue here and there this is clearly ridiculous!

I've never had a car with ACC before and whilst it's pretty impressive 95% of the time, that is seriously undermined by how dangerous it is for the remaining 5%!

I am starting to question whether it is safe to use it at all.

ACC is fine when it works but occasionally goes haywire. Switching to 100 is a worrying.

I use the M27 which has road works, all the time it seems. ACC has been known to use the 10mph for Construction Vehicles in work areas, failing to spot variable speed overhead signs, or the 'all clear' back to 70mph. I have known it to change speed when going under a bridge, presumably picking up the limit on another road which is not from sign recognition.
It used to accelerate out of bends and when going roundabouts but that seems to have been fixed. For a long time the infotainment thought the speed limit in the New Forest was 30 and not 40 as Google Maps will tell you.

VW software is not state of the art by any means. They take a long time to sort issues, if ever. It still shows the wrong mileage on the app after charging and takes a few minutes to sort itself out. This fault has been in the app for over 3 years.

But we still like the car.

Soon to be an id4 owner, other car is id3, and id3 cars share the same problem. Indeed, the general advice is to switch off the ACC options which (mis) read and respond to road signs
