Hi, I’ve read the other posts with the intelligent heading but none seem to replicate the issue I’m having and I wonder if anyone can help me?

I’m all set up but when I plug the car in to charge it’s like there is a constant battle between the car and Octopus about the charging schedule.

I keep getting a charging error on the VW app to say ‘charging error please try again’ and on the Octopus app to say ‘we couldn’t control the charge’

It results in me getting to only around half the charge expected. I’m sure it’s something to do with how I’ve got the car set up but can anyone advise me please?

What I found in getting this to work using my granny charger was to turn almost every option, location, etc off in the VW app and let the Octopus app do the work. I now ignore the VW app, apart from checking what it happening.

I still found one glitch when i tried to charge to 100% the other day and Octopus stopped at 80%. There was an 80% setting in the Departure times - Charging section of the VW app which offers 5 locations. The more obvious Settings - Charging - Charge to (50%-100%) limit was set to charge to 100% but must be overridden by the locations setting. Poor software by VW - doesn't warn you about this!

I presume Octopus cannot complete the test charge for you at the moment.

Hope you can get it sorted as once set up it's great. I have set it up early evening and it starts charging at the cheap rate even at 18:00. I guess Octopus had excess electricity to get rid of.

I assume that you were able to get the Octopus app recognising the car such that you are on the Intelligent tariff which means you've got the following already set up:
  • Upgraded car to 3.2
  • Ensured basic We Connect service enabled
  • Ensure your profile has location services turned on (go to Users in the car app and go into your profile)
But as @exwayf mentioned, don't have any departure times set up in the app or car. I have Home as a location but don't have any departure times set up.

You can set the charge limit to whatever % in the VW app, but also have it the same number as the % in the Octopus app.

Once plugged in, the car will start charging, but you'll need to wait for the Octopus app to set up a charging schedule. Once that's set up, charging will stop and the VW app will say charging has stopped (could be an error msg, can't remember exactly), but everything should be good here.

I have seen on occasion a message stating 'we could not control your vehicle', but it looks like several attempts are made so the car gets charged eventually by the time you get to the end of the schedule window.

This is helpful, I had so many issues when I moved to Octopus (not all their fault as it turned out - my supply voltage too high and the PEN fault protection kicking in in my Hypervolt 3pro plus the beta software etc) so I moved back to Scottish Power. I will give octopus another go when my EV saver tariff expires as I understand the intelligent octopus go/Hypervolt software has been sorted and so has my over volt problem. (Peaked at 254V which kinda upsets PEN set at 252V max I believe) all probably due to the Sub station being across the road.
Thanks for the info TKid.
