GTX Efficiency

Hi All,
I’m looking for some general advice on what owners of a GTX efficiency is in real world driving please.

I currently have a pro performance 77Kw 204bhp, as you know this is the same as the GTX except of course bhp of 299. Watching various videos on YouTube and reading reports of the GTX the reporters seem to say that the car will only charge to between 250 to 290 miles and can only achieve 240 something in the real world.

Unfortunately they never say how they drove the car ie. Eco, comfort or sport which, would make a huge difference if they spent the whole time in sport mode.

I booked a holiday cottage for 7 days, with an approximately 90 miles journey.

My car charged to 100% 314 miles, with 2 x adults, 1 x 37Kg Retriever dog plus suitcase, bags, food etc, reached the cottage with 225 mile left (89 miles). This was in Eco mainly A roads and 7 miles on a motorway.
After driving around various sites over 4 days on narrow(ish) slow roads, I still had 93 miles & 39%, so only needed an 80% top up to go home, which I thought was very good.

If you did the same scenario as above in your GTX (or someone with experience of one) would you still achieve the same driving mileage on Eco ?

Why do the reporters say the charging the car wouldn’t reach 300 mile or over on 100% ?

Would the GTX still be as efficient driving normally on relatively (todays) slow roads in Eco mode ?.

The reason I’m trying to get a handle on this car is because, my local VW dealer has just dropped a huge chuck of money off an 23 plate GTX 4Motion which I’m interested in but, am a bit nervous if the car is as the reviews say. Hopefully some of you guys can convince me otherwise.

Any help or experience anybody has of this car would be much appreciated.

I drive a 1st Edition, in general the range effects for our driving (in Eco mode) have been:

Speed 65 mph more range than at 70 mph
Use of Fan - lose 10 miles
Use of Air Con - lose 40 miles
Rain - windscreen wipers - lose 10 miles
Night driving lose a few miles

I reckon 250 miles is a good estimate for our 77KW battery in the summer and 210 in winter. It really does depend on how you drive the car. We only do a 4-6 long journeys a year so, it depends on what you intend to use the car for as to the range issue.

I was not aware of how much mileage loss by using the various controls, clearly I knew there would be some loss but, never seen any figures so thank you for those.

You mentioned how we all use our cars. I, like you use mine for comfort, in other words if I want the air con to cool or heat the car then I leave it on all the time or play music, just like I would with a petrol car.

Frustratingly, one of the many YouTube reviews I watched was a German magazine reporter, he spoke in English to say that the GTX wouldn’t go far while getting in the car, spinning the wheels and racing off ! People watching like me are all thinking the same, no car will have good mileage consumption driving like that.

Any help I get in deciding is much appreciated.

Just bought a 4 GTX and took it for a long run to North Wales on Monday. Started out with 100% charge and GOM was showing a range of 282 miles, driving on a mixture of A/B roads with minimum motorway on the way out and return using more motorway. Got home with 138 range left and total mileage of 172 miles giving a total anticipated range of around 310 miles. All the driving was done in Comfort mode with three adults and a dog that likes an open window or two so not much opportunity to use the aircon.

I also bought an ex demo 23 plate GTX with 6 miles on the clock at a ridiculous low price although I have now found there is no blind spot information system showing up on the infotainment system, VW and the dealer are looking into it.

Thanks for your information which is a great help for me to decide whether to change my life edition to a 4GTX.

I appreciate your journey was more miles than mine but it helps to know how much charge you start and end with, as I can do a rough calculation for my journey.

I currently charge between 2 to 3 weeks, even with perhaps all the extra gizmos on a GTX I cannot see that i will be charging much less over a month as I do very little mileage normally.

Yes this one was dropped by 20K and in the last week by 22K so, will book a test drive this week and hopefully do a deal !
