I am sure it has been covered, but can't find anything...

What is the purpose of having user profiles?
It blocks access to the app for whoever was not the last driver, and forces you to tap on the screen before you can see any other functions, so not sure what value it brings.
Both of us using a single profile would remove the first problem, but can you remove the initial screen completely?

It seems to have no benefit whatsoever. Allegedly the last update added memory of mirror and seat positions (if you have electric seats) to the user profile, which then makes sense.
It would make more sense if the profile tied to the key as well as not blocking use of the app.

It's purpose is solely to annoy the people using it as far as I can see.

yup its pointless & annoying for most people, especially when a car only has one driver and the screen stays 'stuck' there when you drive off.

VW claim it is for GDPR compliance reasons - which is nonsense, GDPR can effectively be approved when you create a profile not should not be needed each & every time you start the car.

Profiles are there so each driver gets their settings – like seat position or climate control preferences. You can switch to a shared profile, but sadly, you can’t fully disable that screen. The system is designed to recognize you instantly 😊

I think you missed out the word "badly" and I don't understand your definition of "instantly".

The Profile doesn't work for seat position because VW decided that only the highest spec of ID4 was worthy of electric seats. Y'know - stuff that is default in the £50k Tesla 3 isn't good enough for the £50k ID4. It also doesn't recognise you instantly as the profiles are not linked to your key. You have to push a button or two and then tell the car who you are.

My Neighbour owns a Tesla 3. It recognises him instantly - as soon as he approaches the car - so the seats are in the right position when he gets in, along with the mirrors climate control etc etc.
I own an ID4. I have to squeeze into the Drivers seat, start the power, click on the screen to log in, click on a user profile and then manually move the non-electrically adjustable seat. I have never seen the mirrors move even though it is claimed that those are now linked to the profile. The only thing I can see that is linked to the profile is the mood lighting and touch screen colours.
